墟沟林场位于云台山区的后部,约当东径119°20′,北纬37°47′.属海洋性气候型,是暖温带的南缘.据连云港市气象台记录:年平均气温14.1℃,极端最低气温-18.1℃.年降水量近1000毫米,多集中在7、8、9三个月(占全年的60%).冬春多东北风且易遇干旱.主峰605.4米.土壤为片麻岩、花岗岩发育而成的山地棕壤,深度多在30—50厘米,质地多砂到轻壤,下层粘重,肥力各异.pH5—5.5.林水分布:北坡多为针叶林,山南多为落叶阔叶林或针阔混交林.针叶林又以赤松和黑松为最多,是我国赤松林的自然分布南界.
