In this paper, the new RTD-model was used to study the transfer behavior of ground particles in a mill. The basic model is simpler in form and is described using only three characteristic parameters that are easily generated by computerized multiple regression analysis. This model fits well with about 500 experimental data obtained on an industrial mill. In order to determine the mass transfer behavior of each particle size fraction, chromite of different particle sizes was used as a solid tracer in addition to the liquid tracer (lithium chloride solution) in the mill system at the Malmberget mill. The experimental results show that different grain sizes have different mean residence time (MRT), and have a linear relationship with grain size. At the same time, it is also proved that the feeding speed has an impact on the distribution of residence time and the difference of average residence time between solid and liquid phases.
