司马迁首创“中国人”一词。这个概念代表他大一统的民族观念。从上古三代的夏人、商人、周人到先秦时期的晋人、齐人、燕人、秦人、楚人、吴人、越人等,再进而为秦帝国之黔首和汉帝国的齐民,《史记》逐步渐序地展现“中国人”这一个大民族的凝聚力之形成。本文同时将简要介绍近年来西方学者有关司马迁民族思想的部分著作,并力图对其论断的是非得失作出评价。
