一说起在中国乃至世界上都有一定知名度的武汉东湖梅园,人们自然而然就想到了著名梅花专家赵守边高级工程师。赵老1916年生于河南省兰考县,1936年毕业于河南商丘农校,曾任武汉市东湖磨山植物园首任主任,武汉城建学院园林科研所副所长,现任中国梅花研究中心副主任(教授级高级工程师),享受政府特殊津贴。赵老爱梅如痴,辛勤育梅五十年,台湾推广梅花运动委员称他为“中国育梅之父”。可以说,东湖磨山梅园之所以有今天这样的荣誉和规模,与赵老对梅花的热爱以及辛勤的工作是分不开的。
