In order to detect whether the degenerative process of the distal segment of the lesion during the Waller degeneration is occurring simultaneously or gradually from the severing point to the distal direction, the sciatic nerve of the rat is severed. The entire distal segment is divided into consecutive A, B, C Three sections, A section is closest to cut off the site. The c-fos immunohistochemical method and EA50 histochemical method were used to compare morphological changes between the three sections and the number of positive cells. The results showed that there were significant differences in the number of c-fos positive cells between A, B and C two days after nerve transection. By the fifth day, the difference disappeared, and there was no significant difference in the number of positive cells among the sections. The experimental results show that the peripheral nerve cut off, the transmission of information from near to far, also shows Waller degeneration occurs from near to far. As for the mechanism of c-fos expression after nerve transection remains to be further studied
