江汉平原是长江中游的主要粮棉生产基地。在长期棉麦套种耕作下,旱地土壤的板结加重,肥效减低,杂草与病虫害加剧,有碍提高作物产量和降低成本。长期肥稻稻的水田土壤发生滞水,有的则产生潜育化危害,致使肥效下降,产量难以提高。在总积农民生产经验的基础上,我们曾进行过水旱轮作(即稻棉轮作)的试验,无论棉田种稻,或是稻田植棉,只要经过水旱轮作,都取得了明显的增产效果;在双三制的稻田上,实行水旱轮作,还收到了改善土壤渗透性的效果。一九八四年以来,在研究水旱轮作
