《西厢记》的楔子有位于剧首和剧中的两种,位于剧首的楔子比较常见,一般起着交代背景、介绍人物等作用,第一本、二本、三本、五本中的楔子都起着此种效用;第二本《崔莺莺夜听琴》的楔子非常特殊,它位于第一折和第二折之间,形式也极为特别,一般楔子都比较短小,而此楔子篇幅较长,笔者认为“王西厢”采用这种特殊的楔子写法,主要是为了过渡剧情或者是为了插入一段重要却不便于在折当中出现的故事。《西厢记》在体制上多有创新,一改一本四折为五本四折,每折还有重要的楔子,这些楔子补充了正文的情节,起到了重要的作用。
