The northern part of Chile, southern Peru, western Bolivia and the metal mines in northwestern Argentina are located in arid regions at an altitude of 6,000 meters. Due to insufficient supply of surface water, new mines need to develop some new water sources. Groundwater-rich aquifers are found in salt lake basins in the Andean highlands. In eight salt lake basins. Some wells were constructed and tested for the nature of the aquifer. The results show that underground water quality is good. According to the pumping test results calculated aquifer conductivity and water storage proved that the maximum effluent capacity of each production well up to 170 liters / s or more. The authors’ findings show that the underground reservoir in the Andean highlands serves as a huge source of water for mining.
