Recently, Hitachi and Mitsubishi Electric announced the merger of its semiconductor business to set up a new company - Renesas Technology. The new company’s goal is to have sales of more than 900 million yen in the business year ending March 31, 2004, ranking it second in the global microchip market only to the U.S. giant Intel Corporation. The new company, with a capital of 50 billion yen, will specialize in large-scale integrated circuit (LSI) business and other storage businesses that do not include DRAM chips.
