Since Professor WANG Zhong-gao’s creative work onthe systemic treatment of the Budd-Chiari syndrome(BCS),this debilitating disease has been more and morewidely recognized in China.Several large-scale studies ofsurgery or intervention strategies for treating BCS havebeen reported.However,much controversy stillremains regarding many aspects of this disease,includingits etiology,treatment,and classification.This reviewexplores these controversies with emphasis on areas thatmerit further study.
