举世闻名的筑波研究学园都市(筑波科学城)位于东京东北约60公里的茨城县境内。1985年,盛况空前的国际科学技术博览会曾在这里举办。这座新兴城市的建设始于1968年,在这之前,筑波还是一片荒野。著名的日本国立筑波大学就位于科学城的中心,1977年才有第一届本科毕业生。这所年轻的大学办学宗旨独具一格,是一所区别于日本传统大学的所谓“开放性大学”,概括地说,是基础和应用、教学和研究并重的对外开放的综合性大学。
The world-famous Tsukuba Research Park Metropolitan City (Tsukuba Science City) is located in Ibaraki Prefecture, about 60 kilometers northeast of Tokyo. In 1985, the grand occasion of the International Science and Technology Fair was held here. The construction of this new city started in 1968, before that Tsukuba was still a wilderness. The famous National University of Tsukuba is located in the center of Science City, 1977, only the first undergraduate. The purpose of this young university is unique. It is a so-called “open university” that is different from the traditional Japanese universities. In a nutshell, it is a comprehensive university that is open to the outside world with equal emphasis on application, teaching and research.
