朱简(约一五七○卒年未详),字修能,号畸臣,后改名闻,安徽修宁人,明代安徽杰出的篆刻大师之一,其建树不输于之前的何震,也不逊色于后世的邓石如,是一个承前启后的人物,这得益于他深厚的印学修养和高超的创作技巧。明代篆刻家人数不断扩大,进入繁荣期,但更多的则如他所言的『习讹承谬,未疏渊源』。朱简正是在这样的历史潮流下应运而生,没有沉湎于暂时表面的繁荣,而就整个篆刻发展着眼,从更高层次上来要求,提出新的技法原则、品评标准和审美要旨,率先以批评家姿态出现,开后世先河。
