水文水井钻探中,最常见的地层为第四系砂层、砂砾层,基岩为灰岩的破碎带等。在这种地层中施工,井壁稳定性差,必须采用泥浆护壁,某些化学处理剂处理的泥浆起到一定的净化作用。但在钻进过程中,泥浆砂侵严重,泥浆性能遭到破坏,促使水泵部件、水龙头、钻头磨损加剧,甚至1—5mm的砂粒进入水泵,使水泵被迫停止运转,影响施工。所以采用机械除砂方法控制泥浆的比重和含砂量是非常重要的。
