Calcium antagonists (Calcium channel blockers), also known as Calcium channel blockers, are a group of newly-emerged class of cardiovascular drugs. Their common feature in the cardiovascular system is that they all have negative inotropic effects, Relaxation of blood vessels or other smooth muscle without β ~ receptor blockade, of which at least verapamil can inhibit the sinus node and slow atrioventricular conduction. The basic mechanism behind these effects is that they can get their name by hindering Ca ~ (++) from entering the cell via slow channels in the cell membrane, thereby reducing the availability of intracellular Ca ~ (++).
