本文旨在通过分析著名华裔小说《吃一碗茶》中的主人公王斌来,探讨他与父辈,即第一代移民之间的差异及他本人性无能的心理原因,从而对作品的深刻含义进行发掘。并阐述在两代移民面对中国传统文化和美国文化产生冲突之时所应有的合理解决办法。最终得出结论,全盘抛弃传统中国文化或者死板恪守信条都无法使得华裔移民在美国的生活有所改善,做适当的调整才是出路,从而深化小说的主题。
This article aims to explore the profound meaning of the works by analyzing Wang Binlai, the protagonist in the famous Chinese novel Eat a Bowl of Tea, exploring the difference between him and his parents, the first generation of immigrants, and his psychological incapacity . And elaborates on the reasonable solutions that two generations of immigrants should face in the conflict between traditional Chinese culture and American culture. In the end, we can conclude that discarding traditional Chinese culture or rigid adherence to credo can not improve Chinese immigrants’ lives in the United States. Proper adjustment is the way out and the theme of the novel is deepened.
