For decades, fire alarm systems that notify residents and direct their diversion by voice have been the main product of fire protection. In recent years there has been a great deal of question about how to effectively integrate speech into these systems due to the proliferation of so-called communication systems that are suitable for a variety of emergency situations. Rapid changes have affected disciplines and industries that were previously poorly understood or under-served by these systems.
