According to the forecast of the American market research company Schofield, the research and development investment of the 20 largest U.S. companies in 1991 will increase by an average of 8.1% over 1990, compared with 8.9% in 1990. The investment growth of R&D investment in large companies in Europe and Japan in 1991 was also lower than that in 1990: their R&D investment growth rates in 1991 were 9.35% and 10.5% respectively, compared with 11.8% and 12.2% in 1990 respectively. These figures reflect the slowing down of global economic development and the economic stability of various regions. (The American Journal “PROMT”, November 1990)
