Fatalism is a religious and idealistic doctrine that holds that historical development is governed by an irresistible and unavoidable mysterious force (God’s will or fate). The famous British writer Thomas Hardy (1840-1928) was a great realistic writer in the early twentieth century. His works profoundly reflected the social conditions in England at the time. “Mayor Casterbridge” is one of Hardy’s finest work, a work full of fate.
