Amiodarone is widely used in anti-arrhythmia, because of high iodine (accounting for 37.2% of drug weight), it may cause thyroid dysfunction. It is important to determine if there is any true hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism to avoid mistaking the symptoms for underlying heart disease. This article prospectively studies the effects of amiodarone on thyroid function. Methods: All 45 patients received amiodarone for persistent or non-sustained ventricular tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation, atrial fibrillation, and supraventricular tachycardia.
