Cable & Wireless in the United Kingdom said it plans to work with French telecommunications equipment maker Alcatel to build the world’s most advanced transatlantic fiber optic cable system. The cable system total investment of 800 million pounds (equivalent to 1.2 billion). The British telecom giant said it will invest 300 million pounds to build the telecommunications fiber optic cable system, which has a total length of 8,078 miles and is called Apollo. The cable system will be primarily used to transmit IP data, up to 25% more capacity than other existing transatlantic fiber optic cable systems.
