作为诺贝尔奖得主多丽丝·莱辛处女作《野草在唱歌》中的女主人公,玛丽凄苦无依、爱情纠结、悲剧收场的一生惹人同情,然而莱辛开篇却以新闻报道后周遭白人们的默契避谈道出了当时众人对她的死不是同情,而是漠不关心。莱辛以其独特的视角刻画出玛丽物质生活的贫困和精神世界的荒芜。窘困的生活,酷热的天气,丈夫让她失望,爱人让她纠结,这些将她步步逼向崩溃的边缘。本文拟从后殖民“他者”的视角出发,透析玛丽爱情悲剧的深层原因,探究殖民环境下主流社会的种族、性别、阶级等层面的“他者”意识对人的戕害。
