According to a recent report by the National Statistics Institute of Canada that has long been expected, Canada recorded a significant increase in its book industry during 2000-2001. Book industry revenue, profits and new book circulation have shown a significant rise. This survey of all book publishers and agencies is a bimonthly Canadian statistical survey. The survey is based on a 12-page questionnaire that covers 627 publishers nationwide (643 in 1998-1999), including all general agents and 45 exclusive agents. According to the report, these publishers and agencies exceeded revenues by more than 2.4 billion Canadian dollars (about 1.5 billion U.S. dollars) from 2000 to 2001, an increase of 9.4% over the previous survey year.
