统计的主要功能是为社会经济提供信息功能,其中最主要的是通过社会经济现象的一般性规律即平均数规律加以体现,而平均数规律中最主要的是算术平均数和调和平均数两种数值平均数,因此掌握这两种平均数的计算和应用就变得尤其重要。这就要在透彻理解这两种平均数概念的基础上,掌握其计算的基本公式,理解其实质:二者实际上是一样的,不过是依据不同的已知条件,采用不同的形式。掌握其计算和应用,可大致认识社会经济发展的趋势和规律,以便更好地对社会经济加以控制和利用,更好地为社会经济的发展服务。
