This article focuses on the process of the conversion of Buddhism to Islam by the inhabitants of the Qiuci region in Xinjiang from the language of Turfan to Turkic on the occasion of the Tang and Song Dynasties. Based on the analysis of the names of places in Xinjiang recorded in the historical data, the author believes that the tide of Turks in the present-day Turkistan has started from the Han Dynasty and the climax was the westward migration of Hui Yao in 840 AD. Through the study of Chang’an “Qibaotai” Buddhist temple, the paper puts forward the establishment of Dafu Temple, a monastery of the Khuzhe monk seen by the monk Hui Chaowei, when related to the Danyun Temple in Chang’an. Through the study of the early Mongolian-Yuan dynasty historical materials, the author believes that as late as the mid-13th century, Buddhism may still have some influence in southern Xinjiang in the early period of the Islamic era.
