A rapid and simple method for quantitative analysis of terminal hydroxyl groups in polyethylene glycol (PEG) is introduced. This method separates the signal of the terminal methylene in the 1H NMR spectrum from the other methylene signals by reacting the phenylisocyanate with the terminal hydroxyl group in the PEG in the presence of the catalyst dibutyltin dilaurate and then calculating The ratio of the integral intensities of these two methylene signals gives the hydroxyl content.
