职能是指人、事物、机构应有的作用。校长职能就是指校长在领导和管理学校工作过程中,为了不断提高学校的办学水平,所要发挥的作用。校长职能是相对的,它随着外部环境和学校自身发展的变化而变化。当前我国正处于社会转型期,集中表现为社会由封闭向开放的转变,经济体制由传统的计划经济向社会主义市场经济转变,经济增长方式由粗放型向集约型转变,这种变化对学校教育和校长的工作提出了新的要求。在新的形势下,校长的工作如何适应这种变化,清楚确定工作重点,这是学校管理领域一个亟待研究的问题。
