This article deduces the basic relationships necessary to design a space-based radar that performs both search and tracking functions. The tracking requirements are given, including the track update time, the number of beams required to set up a track, and the effect of keeping track of the target number on the design. It also includes the constellation size and background traffic density. These relationships are easily derived by introducing coupling parameters defined as tracking occupancy. The application of space-based radars, the search-and-tracking equations for tracking share-coupled radars. A set of radar design data can be identified by selecting a tracking share or specifying a radar parameter. The tracking share can be calculated on the assumption that both modes of operation (search and tracking) are required. Then all other parameters can be determined. If the designed radar finishes searching or tracking only, instead of both, different methods are used to select the radar parameters. This article also discussed this article.
