Building a Safer and More Secure Construction Industry The construction industry in the EU is large-scale with a production value of more than 900 billion euros. In October 2004, six delegations from the construction industry and the EU Presidency, the President of the Netherlands, signed a joint statement promising to take the lead in organizing and implementing the five standards on occupational safety and health in the construction industry. The joint statement unanimously agreed to incorporate the integrated OSHMS into its own institutional policies and to develop and implement occupational safety and health guidelines and guidelines in the design and planning of construction works. This statement is one of the highlights of the European Union’s 2005 European Security Week, aimed at eliminating and reducing occupational safety and health risks in the construction industry. In Europe, there are currently about 1,000 construction companies signed the activity charter.
