异国情调在19世纪的法国很是盛行,因而比才的歌剧涉及的地域相当广——最著名的当然是西班牙吉普赛女郎卡门,还有关于埃及后宫的故事《扎米列》(Djamileh),甚至还有描绘14世纪苏格兰的《柏斯佳丽》(La jolie fille de Perth)。比才第一部公开上演的歌剧是《采珠人》(Les p(?)cheurs de perles),这部背景设置在古代锡兰岛的歌剧,终于使比才游移不定的目光停留了下来。
Exoticism was so prevalent in France in the 19th century that the area covered by the Beatles opera was quite wide-the most famous being of course the Spanish Gypsy girl Carmen and the story of the Egyptian harem “Djamileh” There is even a La jolie fille de Perth depicting the 14th century Scotland. The first openly public opera by Beaussett was “Les p (?) Cheurs de perles”, an opera set in the ancient Ceylon, setting the scene for a shift from one to the other.
