Objective To evaluate the feasibility, safety and effectiveness of the new occluder in blocking the ductus arteriosus. Methods Arteriosus was implanted with a Baxter polytetrafluoroethylene (PTEF) loop graft to establish a patent ductus arteriosus model between the descending aorta and left pulmonary artery in dogs. Percutaneous catheter occlusion was performed 3 to 6 days later. One week, one month and six months after operation, gross anatomy, histology and scanning electron microscopy were performed. Results Five dogs successfully established animal models. All five dogs were blocked successfully without residual shunt. One month after operation, the surface of the occluder was partially covered by endothelial tissue. Both ends of the occluder were completely covered with endothelial tissue 6 months after operation. Conclusions The new patent ductus arteriosus occluder blocking the patent ductus arteriosus is safe and effective.
