与半个世纪来积累的认识相悖,非暴力与和平尚得不到公认。即便如此,非暴力与和平并不罕见。西方特别是北美占主导地位的文化和意识形态流派倾向于将人性描述为天生是竞争性的、地域性的和侵略性的。另一些观点则认为,非暴力与和平远比暴力和战争更为普遍。在当代世界的将近7000种文化中,在暴力、非暴力、战争与和平的表现方式上有极其不同的变种;它们表明将这些现象作为史前、进化、人性和部落现象的一切简单化推论都是站不住脚和不负责任的。因此非暴力与和平无疑像暴力和战争一样值得我们进行严肃的、系统的和经验的研究。
Contrary to the accretion accumulated in half a century, non-violence and peace are still not universally acknowledged. Even so, non-violence and peace are not uncommon. The dominant schools of culture and ideology in the West, and North America in particular, tend to describe human nature as inherently competitive, geographic, and aggressive. Others contend that non-violence and peace are far more common than violence and war. Among the nearly 7,000 cultures in the contemporary world, there are extremely different variants in the manifestations of violence, non-violence, war and peace; they show that all these simplifications are simplistic in their prehistory, evolution, humanity and tribal phenomena Untenable and irresponsible. Therefore, non-violence and peace undoubtedly, like violence and war, deserve our serious, systematic and empirical research.
