中国的社会转型带来社会分层、分化的进一步加剧,促使处于不同社会阶层的人们对产品选择的差异化日趋明显,人们在产品消费上的分化,就是社会地位的分野,因此在某种意义上,产品设计可以理解为:一个阶层区别于另一个阶层而进行的符号创造活动。由于产品所组成的符号系统,巩固了现行的社会秩序,所以产品设计就变成了一种谋求社会地位和身份的手段。设计不仅制造着差别和不平等物质,还制造着不平等的社会意识。设计通过符号暴力,将社会不平等自然化、常识化,充当着将现存社会秩序合法化、永久化的重要手段。
Social transformation in China has brought about social stratification and further differentiation. It has prompted people in different social strata to differentiate their product choices more and more clearly. People’s differentiation in product consumption is a division of social status. Because of the symbolic system of products that reinforces the existing social order, product design becomes a means of pursuing social status and identity. Design creates not only differences and inequalities, but also unequal social awareness. Through symbolic violence, naturalization and common sense of social inequality serve as an important means of legalizing and perpetuating the existing social order.
