Objective To investigate whether the density of noncalcified breast mass in breast photography correlates with benign and malignant mass. Methods 305 patients with pathological findings of breast mass x-ray mass density of the cases were analyzed. All cases were evaluated in a random order by a radiologist using the Breast Imaging and Data System (BI-RADS). To analyze the correlation between breast tumor density grade and benign and malignant breast lesions. Results Of the 305 cases (320 tumors in total), 74.0% (94/127) of the high-density masses were malignant and 23.9% (47/193) of the iso- and low-density masses were malignant (P <0.0001). In Logistic regression analysis, high density, irregular shape, margin burr were associated with the possibility of malignancy. Conclusion The density of lumps is significantly correlated with benign and malignant lesions. High-density lumps are mostly malignant and can be used as one of the important indexes in predicting malignant masses.
