2011年10~12月,为配合“大遗址保护荆州片区‘楚故都纪南城国家考古遗址公园’”建设,湖北省文物考古研究所对纪南城烽火台遗址进行了试掘。为了发掘的科学性、全面性、系统性和持续性。我们采用RTK技术对纪南城的考古发掘进行整体性规划布方,建立了统一的三维座标系统。发掘方法采用“T”字形探沟布方法,以台基中心点为中心向东西、南北向各布一条大探沟,将探沟控制在三维座标系统中统一布好的探方内,以便整体揭露时归入探方。发掘本着保护为主,研究为辅的原则,尽量少破坏,少动土,大部分探沟只发掘到夯土层即止,局部进行了解剖性发掘。通过本次发掘,基本弄清了城垣与夯土台基的始建年代、两者的关系,为“纪南城国家考古遗址公园”建设提供了真实准确的信息资料。
