Concocting is one of the characteristics of Chinese medicine and is an important part of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia. For thousands of years ago, people have accumulated rich valuable experience in concocting theories and functions, as well as processing technology, and have played an important role in ensuring the safe and effective use of drugs. However, due to historical reasons, the variety, operating technology, quality standards, and purpose requirements of modern concoctions are not uniform. This makes it difficult to ensure the quality of medicines, affect clinical efficacy, and is not easy to produce. Therefore, according to the theory of traditional Chinese medicine, combined with modern scientific methods, and constantly sum up experience, so that Chinese medicine processing gradually unified, which is the common desire and responsibility of the majority of Chinese medicine workers. The “Chinese Pharmacopoeia of 1977” has done a lot of work in this area. In addition to formulating the General Principles for the Preparation of Single Flavor Drugs, some methods and quality standards have been defined based on traditional experience and existing more mature research results. In order to concoct the gradual trend toward unification, we have made contributions. However, it should be said that there are still deficiencies in this version of the Pharmacopoeia concocting project and it is necessary to revise and supplement it. Now at the time of the formulation of the 1985 edition of the National Pharmacopoeia, the editorial department of the journal will present the contributions from the Shandong Institute of Chinese Medicine, Feng Baolin, Wang Qi, and Comrade Wang Mingzhou of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Their opinions on the concocted items in the 1977 edition of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia are available for reference by the Pharmacopoeia Committee of the Ministry of Health in the reprint of the Pharmacopoeia.
