四、龙潭阶梅仙岭段、轿子山段、大垅段、王潘里段四段地层,关系十分密切,分布亦基本一致,组成了华南上二迭统的龙潭阶.其分布范围、绝对厚度、厚度在上二迭统中所占比重,及其所含煤层的经济价值,均超过该统另外两阶,占据了上二迭统的主要位置.西南各省,上二迭统只有此阶分布(峨嵋山玄武岩组除外),因而,实际上成了上二迭统的主体;为此,本文仍沿用“龙潭”旧名,作为此阶名称.
