The authors used a new gas chromatography to determine the fat containing O-200ppm BHA, BHT and TBHQ three commonly used antioxidants. The antioxidant in the grease is flushed with nitrogen and collected on Tenax GC coated with polymetaphenoxylene, which is separated and quantified using a gas chromatograph. This law does not require the extraction of antioxidants from the fat, it is not necessary to make antioxidants derivatives. The correlation coefficient (r) between peak height (or peak area) and the concentration of oxygenating agents (BHA, BHT and TBHQ) in the oil was 0.99. This simple gas chromatography can measure the concentration as low as 10 ppm BHA, BHT or TBHQ.
