自朱熹将《大学》结构分为经传两部分,并为“格物致知”补传,由格物至平天下的八条目便逐渐成为对《大学》修养次第的通行解读。张九成作为理学向心学转化阶段的重要思想家,以本心天理作为构架自身思想和阐释儒家经典的基础。他对《大学》八条目的结构分析和思想解读颇具特点,由致知、格物、知至到治国、平天下共九个条目,均统摄于“致知”之下。“致知”作为《大学》修养工夫的核心,其意涵是体认本心之理并将其推至到事事物物。张九成对致知格物的解读,可以看到他上承道南学派、下启陆王心学的时代特点。
