《好兵》是英国现代主义开山大师福特的匠心之作。一直以来,评论界对于该作品主题研究多集中于伦理学、存在主义哲学等领域,探究作品内蕴含的有关新旧大陆文化冲突的“国际主题”研究则相对较少。本文试着重回19世纪欧美文化冲突的时代现场,以后殖民批评理论为研究视阙,聚焦于道尔和妻子弗洛伦斯的“他者”视角,重点剖析以主人公道尔夫妇代表的美国式希伯来文化与爱德华夫妇为代表的欧洲式古希腊文化的对立冲突与融合,继而管窥福特对于这两种异质文化的沟通融合的文化建构理想。 “Good Soldier” is the ingenuity of Ford, the mastermind of British modernism.
