In 1891, Brown and Walker found that basic salts of dicarboxylic acid monoesters were able to perform a similar Kolb reaction. The anodic oxidation reaction can be represented by the following equation: The dicarboxylic acid ester is formed by the reaction to produce a dicarboxylic acid having twice as many methyl groups as the starting acid. Therefore, the electrochemical synthesis of adipic acid from adipic acid, must first be esterified into monoester, and then electrolyzed into dimethyl sebacate, the final hydrolysis of sebacic acid. This article describes the “electrochemical synthesis of sebacic acid,” the raw material - the new synthesis of monomethyl adipate.
