明代剧论和画论都有“尊古”的说法,但内涵不尽相同。前者是文人画思潮的勃兴,后者则有文化寻根的意味。因为曲坛尊的元曲本身就是俗文化的一种,而以元四家所代表的元画属于士夫画;所以虽然他们尊元的形式一致,也在文人的参与下呈现出一些相似的面貌,但实际发展指向却有很大的不同。这从一个方面,说明了戏曲不同于其它艺术形式的特质。
