In the history of Western aesthetics and literary theory, imagination is an extremely important concept. Addison’s study of imagination is more profound than contemporary aestheticists. This article sketches the evolution of the concept of imagination in the history of Western aesthetics and discusses the significance of Addison’s imagination theory.
