The first five years saw a substantial increase in the number of microwave ovens imported by the United States from abroad. The stoves mainly came from Japan, South Korea and Singapore, some from microwave ovens factories built abroad in the United States. Now, more than 79% of microwave ovens sold in the United States are made by foreign companies, 34% of which are made by foreign companies established in the United States and 66% are imported from abroad. Microwave ovens built by foreign manufacturers are new and less expensive, but to be sure, these furnaces use lighter, less expensive components.
