I was born in Jilin, a small city on the northeast Songhua River. When I was 4 years old (1956), I came to Beijing with my parents’ work. When I first came to Beijing, my family lived in BaiGuang Road, not far from Niujie, where Hui nationality lived. Nearly two-thirds of the students in my primary school are Hui nationality. Under the care of the party’s ethnic policy, these students from Han, Hui, and families of different nationalities respect and respect each other and are like brothers. Until now, I still remember that on the opening ceremony, the principals paid special attention to respecting the habits of Hui students and reminding the students of what they should pay attention to.
