For the first time, David Sayre and his collaborators obtained diffraction patterns of amorphous samples. Their revolutionary merit lies in the ability to obtain diffractograms of a large number of substances that are impossible to crystallize, which can be anything from cells to individual protein molecules and yield ultra-high resolution diffraction patterns. What they got for the first time was a series of diffraction patterns of tiny powders with a resolution of 75 nm, although this is not as good as a crystal
