If we can simply collect and display continuous observation data of crustal movement such as extensometer and inclinometer to the research room or business trip, the observation data processing will be easy. In addition, it would be useful to be able to achieve simple transmission when continuous observations of the crustal movement that have not yet been transmitted and additional temporary observation points are made. Based on the above two considerations, a simple system for collecting and transmitting simulated crustal movement data using public telephone lines is conceived. Then, the collected data is effectively processed by a dedicated computer in a research laboratory to create a system for constructing a database. To this end, memories are made at mainframe computers at the University of Tokyo and at the Institute of Seismology to transfer data or computational results to each other by means of a dedicated computer in the laboratory, thereby forming a huge system capable of processing the observed data. Such a system is also useful for earthquake prediction studies.
