英语高分作文指的是在考试中考生能写出达到第5档的文章。高考中对第5档作文的评分说明规定“准确表达了所有要点,应用了较多的语法结构和高级词汇,具备较强的语言应用能力;并有效使用语句间的连接成分,文章结构统一、紧凑”。根据这一要求,要使文章能够得高分,最常见的方法有:
一、适当运用高级词汇
在写作中“较高级词汇”主要包括两个方面的词汇:一是指使用《大纲》上没有的词语、使用通过构词法变化来的新词、使用同(近)义词或反义词等来代替常见词语;二是指与一些较为通俗的词语同义、同用法的词语相比结构较为复杂、使用率相对较少的词汇。如very用来表示程度,一般考生都会用,但若能用extremely甚至quite,相对very就好得多。因此相对very而言extremely/quite就是高级词汇。在写作时,“较高级词汇”如能运用得贴切自然,哪怕整篇文章只用上一两个来替换掉那些过于通俗普通的词汇,也会使你的作文显得与众不同。如:
1. 我对英语非常感兴趣。
I’m very interested in English.
I’m quite/extremely interested in English.
2. 我们的校园位于市中心。
Our school is in the center of the city.
Our school is located in the center of the city.
Our campus situates in the center of the city.
3. 这几天我有很多事要做。
I have a lot of things to do these days.
I have endless things to do these days.
二、恰当运用复杂句式
好的书面表达句子要简明扼要但更主要是要生动,句子要有层次,结构值得让人分析。如果一篇作文通篇都只是一些通俗简单的短句或简单句,势必会让文章大大减色而失去应有的得分亮点,因此应使用一些较为复杂的句式,如强调句、感叹句、倒装句等来增强语句的表现力。使用一些复杂句式,特别是打破汉语句子结构的束缚而重组的句子将会使你的文章顿生生机和活力。
1. 我兄弟是解放军, 他时刻准备着帮助别人。
→ My brother is a PLA man, and he is ready to help others.
→ My brother who is a PLA man is ready to help others. (使用定语从句)
→ My brother, who is a PLA man, is ready to help others.
→ My brother, a PLA man, is ready to help others. (使用同位语)
2. 我们应当尽力帮助他。
→ We should try our best to help him.
→ We should spare no effort to help him.
→ We should help him as far as we can.
→ We should do whatever we can to help him.
三、准确运用过渡词、过渡句
有的同学的作文乍看每个句子语法和句子结构都很准确,但就是读起来总显得前后脱节,内容不统一。这个问题其实出在你的文中少了一些应有的过渡词或过渡句,这样就使得文中句子都只是一些单个零碎的句子,缺乏整体感。因此在写作时,我们应按时间、空间或其他逻辑顺序来安排各要点的运用。过渡词或过渡句的准确运用加强了句子之间、段落之间的联系,使文章表达连贯,浑然一体。书面表达中常用的可起衔接连贯作用的过渡词、句有:
1. 表递进: and, then, besides, what’s more, in addition, furthermore, moreover, etc.
2. 表转折: but, however, though, or else, otherwise, on the contrary, while, after all, etc.
3. 表总结: finally, at last, in brief, in a word, in all, generally speaking, etc.
4. 表描述: for example, for instance, actually, in fact, as a matter of fact, in other words, etc.
5. 表推理: as a result, therefore, thus, on account of, etc.
6. 表强调: indeed, certainly, surely, above all, etc.
7. 表对比: in the same way, similarly, just as, on the one hand, instead, etc.
8. 表目的: for this reason, for the purpose of, so as to, so that, etc.
9. 时间顺序: first, second, then, finally/at last, soon, immediately, suddenly
10. 空间顺序: here, there, on one side...on the other side, in front of, at the back of, next to, etc.
11. 对称: for one thing, for another thing, on one hand, on the other hand, etc.
12. 因果: because, since, as, thanks to, as a result (of), etc.
13. 条件: as long as, so long as, on condition that, if, unless, etc.
14. 让步: though, as, even if/though, whether, who (what, when, where)ever, etc.
15. 递进: what’s more, besides, to make matters worse, what’s worse, etc.
16. 过渡性插入语: I think, I’m afraid, you know, as we all know, etc.
实战训练 用适当的过渡词填空,使短文通顺连贯。
As a senior student,I have many things in mind to speak out most.
(首先对校长说), I’d like to suggest creating a better environment for us to live and study in. We devote all the time to our lessons,(因此)we’d like more time to relax. Relaxation is of equal importance.(此外), we hope to have more communication with you so that you can learn about our opinions.

四、灵活扩展句子
句子太短,会使文章显得零碎,读起来也索然寡味,平时写作练习时可试着使用一些从句或特定结构将句子扩长。如:
1. 我们应该珍惜时间。
We should value time.
→ We should take action to value time.
→ We should take action to value time to do more work.
→ We should take action to value time instead of wasting it.
→ Valuing time is valuing our lives and wasting others’ time equals killing others.
→ As middle school students, what we should do is to value time and spare no efforts to work on our study.
2. 吸烟有害健康。
Smoking does harm to the health.
→ Smoking results in/contributes to/leads to the damage of the health.
→ With smoking everyday, your health will also break down day by day.
→ As is known to us all, too much smoking does great harm to our health, which should draw our attention.
→ It is reported that many diseases or health problems caused by too much smoking are facing more and more people in the world.
像这样的句子只要适当地、灵活地使用定会使文章大大增色,当然长句得适度,最好的文章还是长短句、简单复杂句错落有致。
