Imino ester derivatives of simple amino acids can be conveniently prepared from nitrile, urethane. We have studied N-ethoxycarbonylmethylenebenzimidate, N-ethoxycarbonylmethyleneacetimidate and N-cyanomethylbenzimidate (1) A series of amino acids with increased carbon chain have been synthesized by alkylation under phase-transfer catalysis.
