文明有古今东西之分,如果说现代西方文明与科学——赛先生——有直接关系的话,那么中国古代文明显然是赛先生之前的文明。这说明赛先生之前、之外还有可以创造文明的先生,即科学之外还有学。中国古代文明与中华民族独有的道器之学有着因果关系。中华先贤从自然之道与自然之物汲取了发明创造的智慧,形成了“以道论之”的思维方式。中华先贤以道论天地,以道论万事万物以及一事一物,以道论器,以道论技,以道论术,论出了一部部经典、一件件器具以及一项项技与术。中华先贤的创造,在当时的世界范围内,大都具有领先意义。道器之学以尊崇自然、和谐自然为基础,所以道器之学创造的文明是可以延续的文明。现代科学以征服自然为目的,所以科学创造的文明是不可以延续的文明。在天地、空气、水以及人类本身受到严重污染的今天,发明创造借鉴与尊崇自然的传统智慧,是必要与必须的。
