Croce once said that all true history is contemporary history. By the same token, we can also say that all good stories are current events. Shakespeare’s most famous play, Hamlet, is based on the Danish history written by 12th-century Danish historian Saxo Grametius. Shakespeare gave Hamlet a new vitality, but the interpretation of the story did not stop at Shakespeare. We briefly recall the story from the saxophone Gramenetus to Shakespeare’s circulation, and the famous Lithuanian director Kosonuosi’s new example, that the old can only keep pace with the times before they can become this Code, Then become a classic.
